Very cool. Note the tall-masted schooners in the distance in upper right corner.

That is a GREAT picture!

Look at all those details, though there's also few people in sight, I suspsect either because it's hot out, or because of the long exposure time.

Wonder how many of those structures are still standing now?

KW is a great little town to get away and have alot of fun. A tremendous amount of history there for sure. It's apparant from the size of the coconuts, there's no problems of lethal yellowing. You might not see alot of tall coconuts anymore, but there are certainly thousands planted around. The nice thing is, if you look hard while driving up and down the little streets in "oldtown", you'll find some more unusual palm species planted.

And Fantasy Fest can be ALOT of fun....... :winkie:

If you look, there is a person walking close to the water front. They are completely dwarfed by the coconut palm. Based on that, I wonder how old those specimens are? Does anyone know if they wound up there by chance or if they were planted on purpose by someone??

I don't know enough about the history of the keys. Fascinating glimpse into history though!

Bill,

I also wondered about that flag. After another view, I just saw the word united on a fence like they used old shipping containers or something similar.

I wonder how many of those Atlantic Talls have been taken out by LW or hurricanes?

If they survived those maladies, I am sure lightning picked them off one by one.

Nice historical picture.

Not too bad... Were coconuts on the island before man was?
