Collier Park and surrounding area

They don't call Spring Valley, Spring Valley for nothin'. For centuries, one of the most reliable sources of fresh water has flowed out of the cracks in the rock here in Spring Valley, which is the reason the area got it's name.

I decided to take a quick juant through Collier Park where there's an abandoned Spring House. This house was used as a bottling facility back in the early 1900's when this area was part of Bancroft Ranch. Here we go

Large Ficus b. tapped into the ground water no doubt.

The Eucalyptopussies are enormous! About 3 feet around in diameter!

Grassy area w/ a few CIDP and local drunks sleeping it off.

A look at the DG and fractured rock that makes up the terrain in the area.

This ain't runnoff from sprinklers folks. We're in the height of our dry season and in the middle of a 3 year drought and water flows freely here.

This old drain pipe dumps water from under the spring house right into the swale.

...and down it goes into the storm drain system.

Just a few blocks away a friend of mine lives on a property that has flowing water down his driveway 365 days a year!

I went across the street to the old abandonded raquetball facility to check out the rock formations. When I was a kid my Dad and I used to watch the sump pump work, pumping water out of the hillside.

They really carved out the rock to build this 2 story facility.
