A little clarification (since Dave's grasp of details is - shall we say, tenuous?)

1st, we visit Dave & Kathy Doubravsky's garden, then we're off to see the gardens at Sims Tree Health Specialists, where Mike (Maxson) works - 7 acres total, with over half an acre devoted to palms.

For those who didn't get their newsletter (you need to let me know, incidentally), here you go

Since it was yesterday are you speaking in the past tense?

I saw a bunch of people taking pictures so hopefully they will post some here.

Here's my take:

It was a great meeting, Dave's house is beautiful. His Pool area is like a tropical oasis. Gorgeous Howea, Archontophoenix, Bismarkia, Beccariophoenix, and my favorites, his true Dypsis ambositrae that are starting to get some good size and really well grown. Great bamboo, Chamaedorea, Ravenea (Dave obviously knows how to fert/water them), and a massive Caryota gigas in the front yard to name a few others. I also enjoyed seeing his tiki's. He has some serious skills.

Sims Tree Specialist was also a really great place. Massive trunked Canariensis (as big as a jub), fat Sabals (riverside, causiarum, and bermudana to name a few), Bizzie with apx. 15ft. of trunk and a massive crown, tall wodyetias, and my favorite( if you can believe it) was the massive Phoenix theoprastii that was kept to a single trunk, it was very interesting with it's black retained leaf bases and amazing armament. The Arboretum was incredible, you walked through the doors to a blast of warmth and humidity. Lot's of stuff that has no chance of growing outside here in Cali. was thriving in there.

I had to leave before the eats and auction, so maybe someone else can fill in the details from here.

Thank you to everyone involved for your time and effort putting this event together.

I forgot, I took one picture with my new camera phone of the P. theoprastii. I guess it's livable quality in a pinch.

Look at the colors of this palm, the pic does not do it justice.

Check out the armament. There is nothing soft about this one. All leaflets are like daggers.

Matt, WOW! I'm liking all the color on that Phoenix Theoprastii. I have a 5 gal. that I grew from seed that I was trying to sell/giveaway but I think I'll plant it now. I had planned on going to the meeting but my dad had to go into the hospital and I had to do maintenance on his large garden Sat. Looks like I missed a good one. I wanted to see Dave's tikis as well. Anyone with more pics :hmm::drool: .
