I have many diverse hobbies and interests, not just palms! Alcohol not being one of them however, as I am also very health conscious!

Mainly if I can learn from something it interests me, like all the scientific names for different things, doing experiments with different growth rates of things under different conditions, experimenting with things like fishtanks etc. If it has roots in science I probably will end up studying about it, which is how I got to palms.

The girls come with the ride. That's what you need to get goin'. That might require a doggone J.O.B. :floor:

It'll all fall into place grasshoppa. :)

I couldn't imagine what insurance for a teenager is these days... I'm not looking forward to my daughter growing up...

I eat meat, but not fast food, or sweets, or that type stuff, I also run 3 miles every day.

Insurance is certainly more than I would wish! Gas too... It's not $4 a gallon anymore, but it's getting back there...

Excellent age Keith to start growing some Corypha and Borassus. Don't hesitate on these, trust me, get some Attaleas and big Dypsis happening too. How much land can you access for big palms ?

Stay with it, you'll be a legend.

Happy Gardening

I also have seeds from Attalea butyracea that PalmatierMeg sent me that I'm germinating.

Currently I'm growing everything in pots, as we are renting right now. We're supposed to be buying some land to build on within the next year or 2, so I'll be able to plant everything in the ground then.

Keith,

Your definitely starting at a ripe young age. Collect everything and anything, and now. Even if you don't save it all, your plants will be that much bigger and worth more to possibly sell or trade later on.

I started when I was 25 years old, but as a grower with the nursery. Back in the days, I was just growing, now it's more of a collecting aspect that's so rewarding for me.

And like Wal said, you could be a legend some day, you never know. :)

I wish there had been a Palm Talk way back when...I was a Botany Club geek from the 8th grade on...I remember we had all sorts of interesting plants at our school, especially gingers, and I was already into all things green & growing (it's genetic, I come from a family of botanists.) I understand there's a cycad garden at the school now, a project of the music teacher and the CFPACS. If I had only planted rare and fabulous palms back then (like you are now, Keith!)

Well, I am surely not anywhere a young member. But, I may have the greatest age range of children around Palmtalk.

My kids are

27 years old

20 years old

1 year 11 months old

6 months old

And a step son 35 years old

I have some Corypha to plant on my place. I hope that some of the kids see them set fruit. My dad is 90 so maybe I have a chance.

Hi,

I'm 22 years old since last September and started with growing my first exotics & palm trees on my 16th and still growing and learning about them. Don't know when I joined this forum by the way, couple years back I think.

About fridaynight, most of the time I'm also not away at fridaynight, just because saterdayevening/night is here the day for going away and most of the time I have to wake up quite early on Saturdaymorning. So when I go away or something it's always saturdaynight and can't remember my last saturdaynight that I was in my bed before 3 o'clock during the night, most of the time it's about 4 or 5 o'clock. No girlfirend so I can do everything what I want, life can be great sometimes ;)

I started when I was 13, at the age I left the palm trees in California and moved to Seattle, WA. Now I am going to college in Florida! I used to get in trouble all the time on the forums for asking obnoxious questions! Maybe people would have been nicer if they knew how old I was. :P

I'm always up for learning new things!

Keith, I wish I had started at your age! My son Tyler "Tiki Ty" joined when he was just barely 15. He has'nt posted much but he does lurk here from time to time. He is actually more of a Cycad freak and has a nice little collection of blue Encephalartos. BTW, he has one of the sickest avatars, check it out. Congratulations again and enjoy your journey into the world of palms and tropical plants.

His avatar is nice!

Something I realized, I am growing some Beccariophoenix alfredii, so when they are super popular and planted everywhere (It'll happen, I just know it) I'll have one of the oldest ones around in my garden and I will be able to tell people that I remember when it was brand new!

Yet he said in another thread he's looking at buying property...Maybe another "dog-year" person? :D

Also, I noted a new member -Jason M-? from Wisconsin seems pretty young.

And if it counts, I rarely act my age. Many can attest to that.
