Dec.20,2009-Key West,Fl-71F. It is cold here and I thought I would enjoy it more.On the first day of Winter(Dec.21), the low in Key West was 61F.Although predicted, there was no freeze in North Fla. that I could see. If Ca. is cooling down, I got to believe Texas stands up to the plate.

Not for at least a few days anyway. A frost advisory has been issued for the San Joaquin valley to tomorrow morning [that's too close for comfort].

Glad to see Texas warming up a bit. That snowstorm earlier this month was a real surprise [hope it didn't cause any permanent damage to cold sensitive palms].

It is very windy here today w/ strong north winds. Doubt it will rise much above 60F & once the winds die down the night temp could reach the 30's. NWS is forecasting low 70's for later in the week. Should be beautiful in SoFlorida for Christmas [likely the warmest in the nation except Hawaii].

DonK, that Cuba photo looks like the bay of Santiago de Cuba is in the distance. The developed area is something like an oil facility, and the city's out of sight.

In Vero Beach, our last record high was 86 on December 13. We had 3 record highs (85, 86, and 87) during the month. Between that and some rain, the palms in the yard were all unfurling new leaves. We're now facing a week or more of cool weather, possibly near freezing for the weekend.

Bubba, the last time Dallas experienced a "white" Xmas was in 1977! A record cold year. The subtropical jet has been delivering copious amounts of rainfall into Texas but unusual cold air is in place. Everywhere north of Florida is cold today though not too bad out here.

Epic, Bastardi is a little bit scary on that forecast. I think he has been very angry with Florida because we failed to produce any Hurricuns for him this past year. That wild look in his eye combined with merriment in delivery makes me wonder. That stated, 1977 and 1985 Winters were devastating for Florida.Snow in the Bahamas!

Happ, Would you and Kevin check more deeply into this?

I am going to do a little research to check out coldest January's historically because Bastardi said the entire month. I think Keith and his sunspots may be spot on!

HYPE is the name of the game, get their attention, if we are wrong so what, we filled the seats(ratings ,advertising)!!!

Who knows it may be the coldest winter since 1977, but so far on average this winter, at least here in central Florida has been warmer than last year ,at least to this point. As the link Terry posted in the Ann- Margret thread, the meterologist stated ,this is what I am predicting,re: el nino and cold, but the weather can and does change on a DIME!!!
