Here is a picture from 21 April 2006, it's planted in Spring 2004 but doesn't grow very well the first 2 years. Looks like it's has started with growing from spring 2006.

Here is the picture from 10 December 2009, unbelievble how fast this palm is in only 3 years. It's now fighting for his live in our second horrible winter in a row.

Wow , Thats fantastic Robbin , Water and plenty of fert makes a big difference with washy robusta . Mine has been unbelieveable fast it was a 4 frond 1 foot in Jan 2009 now it is getting close to 5 foot !

If only my Rhopalostylis and Hedyscepe would grow so fast .

Sorry about that.

I have one little and potted bismarckia wich i am thinking to put on the ground.

But now i am a little worried.

How low did it freeze overthere? Any frost? Did you protect it anyway? What was the relative location of yours?

That's right I also wish that some other palm species would grow so fast as mine Washingtonia. The succesfactor of this one is the place where it is and specially the wall behind it. It's on a southfacing wall that's warming up very fast in spring and is getting hot to 40C during the hot and sunny summer days. Most of the time the wall is getting really warm during the day and still giving heat during the night. When there is a good summer evening and you going stand one meter from you can feel the warm air along that wall. I think that I can't grow a Washingtonia so fast somewhere else in the garden.

I really like Washingtonia because I don't think they are ugly and they also growing fast, what do I want more...? :D

The bizzy was in full sun in a northerly aspect , we hardly got a light frost here all winter ,lowest temp was 0.5c BUT a long cool winter with most days below 18c will slowly kill a Bismarckia .

winter is usually between 10-15c with plenty of rain .

Your climate reminds me of a warm San Francisco [no frost but many very cool days].
