Howdy Yall,

Its been a while since I've posted and today gave me a reason to. Installing a new seawall net door to this neighbor and to my surprise, this beauty caught my attention. I have seen several of these out and about but this one by far has the prettiest fronds. There is a queen towering over it and it also has lots of seed. Thought about trying a few seeds since there could be a chance some are viable. Anyways, enjoy the pics. Not the best pics since all I had was my phone.

That is a real beauty PG, really closely spaced, super droopy leaflets.

That Mule is definately a beauty with its droopy fronds. Looks like the leaf blades are wider and closely spaced together. Some mules are definately nicer looking than others. I have 3 old Mules and none of them look alike. There seems to be quite a bit of variation with the Mules. All of mine were natural hybrids that came from Central Florida.

Patrick Schafer tells me that all of his Butia X Parajubaea cocoides crosses are uniform and look identical while his Mule crosses show variation.

All of my Mules are different. I do have one that has those same droopy wide leaflets, just love it.

That is a beautifull specimen! Below are a few of the ranch hands in front of my beauty! I need to take a better pic from a wider angle. I have a few that stand out like the one you posted PG.

Mark,

If you have some mules that look like the one pictured, I would red flag them and hang on to them. I imagine a true palm connoisseur would pay 2 or 3 times what an ordinary mule would cost.

Some years back I had several mules that I was growing up just for the heck of it. One looked different from the others and had a nice droopy apperance. Since I already had 3 large mules, I gave the droopy one to a friend who lives in San Jose. He planted it immediately and it has grown extreamly fast and it's retained its droopy apperance. It's a beauty. I think a lot of people forget that not only are some of the mules very attractive and tropical looking, but also considerably more cold hardy than a pure Syagrus.

Very nice looking Mule. Here is a photo of one that can be spotted on the side of I-275 heading out of St. Petersburgh FL going towards Sarasota.
