Even the pine needles looked interesting covered in ice.

cool shots Catherine. Its scary thinking about ice on your tropicals down there! Was this from rain or did you have the irrigation on?

30º F at 5am today. First sub-freezing temp. in my yard since 1989. There's a Hard Freeze Warning for my County tonight. Around here, Hard Freeze usually means temp at or below 28ºF for 3 or more hours.

I've got more than 60 Palm Species in the ground here on East Merritt Island, Florida...28º21'06.15"N 80º40'03.75"W

If you Google the lat-long above, then hit terrain, you can see my yard with live Plants.

Most of my Palms are mature (have flowered) and most are Zone 10.

Knew I was zone-pushing when I planted them but the majority are from seed collected in travels or from Palms bought small-so there's no great expense involved.

I've only named a few of them-I hope George and David make it-I really like George and David-oh and Sue (she's beautiful)....and Tommy-can't forget Tommy.....

...we'll see.

We just left this one sprayer on. It rained all afternoon and there were little bits of ice on the leaves of most palms by 4 PM, which might have been light sleet, but thankfully it dried up so I didn't have ice-encrusted palm leaves everywhere.

Catherine, the icicles are wonderful and I'm glad you took some photos. I can really sympathize with you...but, then, I remember the great freeze of '72 six feet of snow in Naples! The emergency plows were sent down from Minnesota to clear the streets and the coast guard worked through the night to crack the thin layer of ice covering the gulf...now, that was a cold spell! And, Old Ned, jeez, whoever heard of naming your palms...well, maybe just Willie, oh, ok, there's Santiago too...and Lola, and there's...I gotta go...
