Alright, I'm a nerd, I've seen Avatar 7 times so far in 3D IMAX, totally incredible movie. The other day I bought the book "Avatar, An Activist Survival Guide". It has details about Pandora and it's fauna, flora, Na'vi customs and the weapons and vehicles used in the movie. All the plants and animals have been given Latin names (the Na'vi are named Homo pandorus). There is Pseudocycas altissima, a Pandoran cycad similar to the cycads of Earth, Saltarus pendulus, the Beanstalk Palm with straplike leaves and can reach over 150m tall, and Saltcellar gracilis, Razor Palm, with narrow leaflets that are razor sharp and sharp spines on the trunk.

Now when do the seeds become available ???

Saw it in 3D and loved it. I especially liked the flora and fauna. Nice to visit. Put me in line for seeds, Eric.

There is always enough room for another palm!

I really liked it too! Although describing the Na'vi as Homo seems a bit odd, dont organisms within the same genus share common ancestors? :)

I wonder if a proper phylogenetic analysis took place before including Na'vi in the genus Homo. Did I seriously just say that?

Its great to hear you are an Avatar nerd Eric!!! :) I loved Avatar too and saw it twice on 3D,one of these time first row(awesome!). I also saw it twice online and i have downloaded HD for a 5th time  I plan to go see it 3D another time too with a friend of mine who has seen it 4 times too! Avatar is such a great movie and features such wonderfull plants! I will be definately buying the book you said,i didnt know such a book existed! Now if only these described species existed... :(

I am especially fond of a plant that has fan like leaves and the general shape of a palm but its leaflets(which are distally broader than towards their base are divided till the petiole, making the leaf appearing like a fan leaf with windows at its base. Do you know what they call that? I think there is a similar leafed plant on Earth but cannot remember it at all,no names or family, nothing! I only remember seeing this leaf shape on a plant before...

Terrific escapist fantasy, love the floating islands in the air, the big rock arches, and the glow in the dark garden. Visually stunning, first time I've wanted to see a movie twice in a long, long time.

MattyB, don't wreck it for me!

Yeah I enjoyed the movie enough to watch it 3 times in 3D.

I didn't watch it in IMAX though -- I got dizzy the last time -- Tranformer's revenge of the fallen.

They could just do a documentary of Pandora the next time --I'd watch that. They could expound on the Flora and Fauna of the rest of the planet.

I saw it once in just 3D, the others in IMAX. If you can see it in IMAX then spend the extra few dollars, definitely worth it. With IMAX its not just the bigger screen and perfect picture, the sound is totally incredible too.

Lucas is reworking the 3 original Star Wars episodes (4,5,6) into 3D and IMAX, cant; wait for those to be released.

Eric,

I knew I liked you! I am a scifi geek and have been since I read "The Wonderful Flight of the Mushroom Planet" when I was in the second grade.

We went to see Avatar last night in 3D. Wow! Awesome movie! The best sci-fi movie since Dune. The special effects were amazing. I want one of the 6-legged horses and one of the flying dragons. Of ocurse I don't know how I would get on them since the people were so much taller than we are.

After the movie, we were discussing it and I noted that the way the humans acted in the movie is exactly how we would act if we encountered a different species who got in our way.

I would love to see it in IMAX - that must be outstanding!

I've seen it once when I went with my kids for their first 3D ever. We loved watching the nature - it was really a wonderful experience.

I have not seen the movie yet. But, the diretor James Cameron was recently in Manaus and has become involved in the local political scene. Amazonia is a big influence on the film. And, the hydroelectric project, Belo Monte in the state of Para has become a point of conflict between the Brazilian govenment and environmentalists, including Cameron. He was here in Manaus about a month ago for the Forum on Sutainability along with Al Gore.

Director Cameron was on tv tonight here. I'm sure he said underwater filming was done on the Gold Coast and that the jungle/forest concepts were gained from Hawaii. The blue ray is going fairly cheap for now.

I missed seeing it in IMAX and 3D...I outsmarted myself. The plan was to wait until the crowds thinned out. But when they did, they replaced Avatar with Alice in Wonderland. Oh well. I just bought the blueray version and I'm going to watch it Sunday afternoon since I've already seen all the romcoms on cable.

Well I picked up the blue ray dvd today, on special. Now finding a spare 160 minutes to watch it could take some time.

Watched it over two days, incredible, Director Cameron must be happy, once every second household had a copy of Titanic, now it will be Avatar.
