The sale is indeed a social event. The site is an unassuming park with a secret: the canopy of native pines makes the palms and people comfortable and happy.

I was labeling plants in the yard today and took time to admire a Zamia loddigesii, which was already impressive when I bought it maybe four years ago. A lot of coonties in the yard come from the Palm Beach sale, too. I think I recall them being so cheap, it made sense to buy first and design the landscape later.

Sorry about that last post. We are having a rainstorm right now and the power went off in the middle of the post.

Mike, are you bringing a lot of those great, rare, Caribbean palms that you are so well-known for? I can't wait to see what you have.

Mike (Caribbean Palms) & Betty (Pdleft) - anything special you bringing to the sale? huh.gif

The Dypsis tokoravinia I got from Betty last time got planted and made it through the winter just fine. It is sending up it's third leaf spear so far and I suspect it is happily on its way becoming a giant!

From Mike I got a Calyptronoma rivularis and Arenga hookeri. Both palms were steeped up into larger containers. They were brought inside for a few of the coldest days, left out for the cooler days to help harden them off. Both are going into the ground this month!

There are some great deals to be found at this Sale. Dale Holton (MAPU 1) will have his usual incredible selection of cycads there as well.

It can not get here fast enough. I need some green in my yard.

With a tin cup for a chalice

Fill it up with good red wine,

And I'm-a chewin' on a honeysuckle vine.

Ron- Can you show a pic? A lot of the older ones of this were Dypsis Carlsmithii, The newer ones have been different.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

At the juvenile stage they seem quite the same, just a slight leaflet variation. I will try and post a picture for you this evening. rock.gif This is my D. carlsmithii leaf with Croton cultivar "Gloriosa" hiding beneath it.

The Palm Beach Palm and Cycad Society would like to thank all of the palmophiles for coming to Caloosa Park this weekend. We had a record breaking Saturday sale. Most of our palms and cycads were in new homes by Sunday which was a good thing because the rains moved in by early afternoon. It was wonderful seeing and chatting with old and new friends and I believe everyone agreed it was a great sale. See you in the fall.

Record breaking sales for saturday? That sounds great and encouraging for all the growers. I would think this is attributed to maybe two reasons, first, with the worst cold records in 40 years, many people loss lots of palms and were in need to replace things. And secondly, the leadership within the Palm Beach Chapter with putting this sale together.

Good to hear that it was a success.
