Sabal xTexensis (Brazoria)

I have 2 of this palm, born from seeds some years ago, one in the ground is 3 leaves strap and had no problem after 2 nights at -9° C (15 F) and snow, it's under canopy of a chamerops (damaged to some leaves)

Anothe one in a pot is badly damaged after -7° C (19° F) , expecially to the recent leaves, dried by the cold, maybe because the roots are more exposed in a pot??

R U sure it isnt Sabal Causiraum? the blue/green color is similar.

I bought the seeds from RPS as sabal xtexensis.. but I Not an expert

I have two of these planted in the backyard under partial to full canopy. No protect was given during the winter. Ultimate low of 16F with several nights in the upper 20's and low 30's did not damage either plant.

I have one that has been in the ground for over 4 years and I never protect it and it has gone through at least 1-2 nights of around 10-12 degrees a winter and around 5-8 nights a winter of 17-18 degrees, with no damage from any of the above cold spells. It is still fairly small-leaves reach about 4.5'high. It would probably be larger by now but it gets mostly shade during the day.

The xTexensis of the photo above is dead, the seedling in the ground is still alive .
