It seems that all of my palms always open new leaves just after we have any decent kind of rainfall. Here are a few photos from the yard today...

Hi Ari,

Yes, it was a bit of a rush around the garden when you visited.

As for the new plantings, well, I have lost a couple...one Pritchardia was eaten by a hare, most of my Livistonas were flattened by flood water...It was a gamble that they would be big enough before the next flood..I lost! One Dypsis canaliculata rotted for some reason. Apart from that the rest are getting adjusted to the sun, and getting their roots into the ground.

Here is one of the surviving Livistonas...the water level was up to the top of the debris on the fence

Here are the others..nothing too spectacular yet!

Wait Daryl. Is Dypsis sp.213 different than Dypsis sp.215?

How many numbers do you have?? :D

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

Bill, different palm to '215' I got the seed of this at the same time and from the same supplier as 215. Not too many numbers apart from that!:mrlooney:

Man your garden's amazing and in brilliant condition Daryl. You're a good photographer too. You must have loved your warm wet summer. Much better than that crappy Perth style summer you had a few years back when your lawn died.

Thanks Tyrone. Believe it or not, January was very dry here...maybe 5mm of rain for the whole month. February made up for it though, probably 400mm + here, and March is already 200mm

I would have taken those 5mm. Officially we got 0.2mm for the whole season. In fact we've only had 0.2mm since Nov 20 2009. I did have a thunderstorm here that didn't make the radar that made my gutters flow like wild for a while. So I suppose I was lucky. :D

I know Bill put his hand up very early for 215, but you have to watch out for some of the local palm nuts here, they can be quite aggressive with their tactics.

Daryl, you have similar issues in your garden as I have here. You plant something in sun then the jungle takes over and it's in shade. That's happened to some of my foxtails and theyr'e little while the ones in sun are 20ft tall. But I think Pritchies look better in shade. They get giant leaves and long petioles and look awesome.

Tyrone, yes, unfortunately the Diplogottis grew much faster than I thought, along with other trees and palms. Just have to accept it and re-plant more suitable species.

The red Triangles have never set viable seed. They do form fruit, but it's soft and has nothing inside.

Here's a couple more photos...recently opened leaf on my Lemurophoenix.

This volunteer Alex is growing very well, considering it has never been watered since germinating. It will have to come out as it will bust my wall if it keeps going.

Daryl, I'd leave it there and let it push the wall block out of the way. Once it's dislodged I'd put a rock or something there. It will give it the old jungle ruins look.

I've got volunteer bangalows coming up everywhere now.

Peter, Here is a photo of the crown. They have a really nice leaf arrangement. Each of those leaflets is about 15" long. In the rainforest here they grow to 35 metres tall...hopefully not that big in my garden!
