Well my faithful companion of almost 10 years had to be put to sleep this past October. I only now feel like writing about it. He had stomach cancer and the tumor was pushing on his internal organs. I did not allow him to get to the point of not being able to get up, but it was obvious that he was feeling very bad in the final weeks. It's the hardest thing I've had to do in a long time. My wife and I comforted him till the end and he passed very quickly. We still have our female and she gets alot more attention from us. We do not plan on any more dogs for a long time. I buried him up in the country at the family farm near a pond. I planted a Butia capita on his grave. We miss him....R.I.P. "Big Boy"

David, Sorry for your loss. Losing a pet sucks. I am sure he will love the spot by the pond

David, I found this poem a while back and thought is was worth keeping and passing on.

A Dogs Prayer, by Beth Norman Harris.

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footsteps falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest - and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

David, I am so sorry about your loss. Our dog passed last fall after 14 years in our family. We have one dog at a time, and we adopted an unwanted Plott hound in November. Dogs give far more than they cost and they will always live in our hearts.

Hello David,

We can only do right by our pets, then like the rest of us their time comes. Give any animal a better life, and I believe you should be proud. They would be proud too. Regards, John.

David,

I feel your pain. Our beloved Duke (German Shepard) passed about 3 years ago. (2 weeks before Christmas) He had Anal Cancer. But my father always told me when one dog die's give another a chance to live. So 2 days before Christmas we went to the pound and rescued a dog (Christy). Don't let anyone tell you it's just a dog for they are much more then that. As long as we have memories they truly never die. All the best Ellis

Sorry to hear. Losing a good pet is rough. I'm sure you'll find a nice replacement for the next chapter.

Dear David

Very sorry to hear about it.And i must say when i joined this forum,at that time we had 3 boxers. And at moment we have only one boxer, which is the offspring of the other 2.If you had seen the pets thread you would have seen them.their names are Rocky,Pinky,Sumo.

And old boxers died out of old age,the vet said it was sudden heart attack. And in a span of 8 to 9 months one after the other left leaving behind their kid by name Sumo.

Love,

kris.
