A recent guest of ours, Eduardo Santella, took this short video of our home and garden and I wanted to share it with the forum and other IPS members. I wish there were more clips of the garden...maybe next time! Peter

Wow, Peter - that's some location. Did your friend plan to make the video for any special reason, or just as a gift? Enjoyed it too.

Whoah!!!! What a spread you've got there Peter. It's beautiful! I loved the music and the style of the video. I liked the focal point shifts on the still shots. Simple and elegant to compliment a luxurious home and garden. If I ever shipwreck and wash up on a Guatamalan beach I hope it's in front of your house. :)

Thanks Jeff, glad you liked it...MattyB if you're ever shipwrecked off the coast of Guatemala, I'm sure we could help you out! John, it was not any special reason (if I would have hired him, I would have had him concentrate on more palms!) he had a good time here and starting filming. It's our private home but there are four ocean front suites we rent to friends and friends of friends. There's not much to do except eat, drink, walk on the beach, swim in the pool, lay in a hammock, read...check out the lastest post on Palmtalk...

Peter, What an enchanting home and garden! It has a very open and inviting feel to it. The quality of the video was top notch and flowed very nicely with the music! I know little about Guatemala but you must have volcanoes in your history as I noticed a black sand beach similar to what they have in Hawaii. You have a home and garden to be very proud of!!

Great place you have there--It's like living in a resort.

No I do wish he shot more of the plants around your house. I remember you had a "before and after" post before with a lot palms that really shot up in 5 years or so.

So I guess you go to the city for vacation? rolleyes.gifbiggrin.gif

Are palm talk members close enough to be "friends orf friends"? I would be very happy to "eat, drink, walk on the beach, swim in the pool, lay in the hammock, read..." and swim in the ocean! Are there any waves? I'll bring my board.

The weight of lies will bring you down / And follow you to every town / Cause nothin happens here

That doesn't happen there / So when you run make sure you run / To something and not away from

Cause lies don't need an aero plane / To chase you anywhere

pohonkelapa, yeah, life can be rough!

Stevo, yes, we have volcanoes. In fact, if you go to the hammocks on the third floor you have a clear view of seven of them.

Thanks, Jeff, you should come up sometime.

Thank you Gene,if you go directly west of my house, cross the Pacific, you'd hit Manila! Our climate must be fairly similar. Actually that before and after post of 5 years was a friend's house up the beach, scottgt.

sur4z, we have waves. you saw the video, sometimes they are 3 or 4 meters high with a strong undertow. Not really the best for surfing though, the waves here are short not like in some other areas of Guatemala.

I'd love to do a video just of the garden! It just rained for the first time this season and everybody's happy!

Dear Peter :)

You live in a very beautiful place,i simply love it ! And your climate seems to be very much like our climate here.

And its intreasting to see you beach sand to be in black colour ? Valconic soil can be a boon for growing exotic plants.

Thanks for that video link,

lots of love,

kris :)

Peter,

Thanks for the video. You have a beautiful place that must be very comfortable. The open spaces are very nice in a climate like yours. You must a fairly constant breeze.

Hi Don, yes, it's very comfortable and the constant breeze is wonderful til around 6:00 p.m. when everything stops for a few hours except on the beach. I'm live outside all day long except for sleeping, it's so different from life in Florida where I'm inside all day long and never turn off the A/C!

Hello Kris, We have black volcanic sand like they have in Hawaii and I should be trying to grow more exotic plants. I am happy to say that your Corypha and Borassus palms LOVE it!!

Peter,

I find a big difference when I go to Florida now as well. At home most people do not use AC during the day, at least for most of the day here. Even though it is hot and humid. The air flows through the homes well and with a fan, or even without one it is relatively comfortable. I find that I always want to open the windows when I am in Florida. Which does not really work to well as homes are not designed to have air flow through them.

Great video Peter, you have a fine taste when it comes to Palms and home design...

The general atmosphere makes me feel in Sirinhaém, where we have a beach house here, also open to the breeze... Surprising to see our local cashews in Guatemala, fruiting at a different time of the year...

I loved this night underwater ilumination at your pool...is this a special lamp?

Congrats...

Hola, Gileno, muito obrigato...the pool lights are great with various programs depending on your mood and function. They are Hayward Colorlogic LED lights and they have no bulbs.

The cashews are nearly through with their season and I am waiting for the first few mangoes to ripen on my trees. This is the first year for us to get fruit, after waiting five years, I hope we pick them before the birds do!

How is your garden coming along? I remember seeing your post too, it's spectacular.

Nice house & garden, Peter... I am envious... Regardless how much I love my place, I miss the sea... We are 35kms inland, which is not that far really, but that view of the sea all day every day is priceless... Besides, you would get the beautiful sea breeze.

How is your soil? Sandy, I guess??
