Scott, I'd love to have one to try here in JAX. Where did you get yours?

Land O Lakes FL, a suburb on the North Side of Tampa, FL

Summers are great, 90f/32c in the day & 70f/21c at night with plentiful rain & sun

Winters are subtropical with occasional frosts and freezes. Tropical cyclones happen.

We have a few Royal palms in the warm microclimates but Coconuts freeze.

I am a Kayaker, Hiker, Bicyclist, and amateur Photographer that loves the outdoors.

I have a small one just under a metre tall, in a pot. It has survived happily below freezing 3 or 4 times with no effects. They seem to love water and plenty of it. Mine is quite a slow grower and is happiest in semi shade, hot sun burns it but this should change with age, so I am told. Even here they are not always easy to find, took me a few years to get hold of one.

Peachy

I came. I saw. I purchased

27.35 south.

Warm subtropical, with occasional frosts.

Keith, I purchased the muelleri in 1999 as a 1 gal from a local palm grower. I have always wanted another one but have never found one.

Thanks Scott! I'll keep my eyes peeled. Maybe someone will see this string and we can find a source. BTW, it looks like yours is growing real fast considering it was planted in 1999

Keith,

Rare Palm Seeds have L. muelleri seeds at the moment.

They were listed as new in January so should still be ok to germinate, but maybe buy more than you need just in case.

I've found that other species of Australian Livistona have quite a long viability period compared to most palm seed, probably due to the marked dry/wet season variation in many of their habitats.

I got 14 out of 20 up - two months to germinate at 30C.

Cheers,

Jonathan

I bought seedlings 2 years ago labeled as Livistona Muellerii. Kept in Green House. The petioles get longer.

Then I planted it on ground soil with full sun and daily rain. The petioles get shorter and throwing beautiful leaves. After 3 months.post-1960-065592500 1292414687_thumb.jpgpost-1960-096235100 1292414768_thumb.jpg

I got 3 nice 3 gallons from Redland's Nursery this summer. Not sure if they are still alive after the recent cold though...
