Seems to me, many aren't willing to share from aus, I'm not talking about occasional posters here, although they are bad enough, I'm talking non-posters, those that have the palm bug but just park outside and don't enter. Lots of knowledge lost.

That's all I have to say about that...

I couldn.t agree more. With all the different climates that Australia has to offer, the vast amount of nurseries, collections, botanical gardens and parks, collectors and so on, it's a huge loss for all of us.

I've noted this recently too. I may have incorrectly heard some think it is too USA biased. I don't think its biased so much as who posts more.

I post a lot mainly because I'm afraid of the silence.:blink:

Either way, I'd like a lot more Aussie input. :)

I also enjoy the humor and expressions that come from Australia. I also enjoy the sharp crispness of their English. When I went to Australia it took me 3 days until I could understand what they were saying. American English is much softer than the Brits or the Aussies.

The good news is we have some truly awesome regular Australian posters. But definitely, more is better. We know you're out there!

Funny thing, the same could be said for any part of the world -- there are many experienced, knowledgeable palm people in many parts of the globe who choose not to post, but lurk, or maybe are not comfortable posting. You know who you are! Please come in from the cold. :) Tell us what you know.

In competitive surfing, Hawai'i isn't part of the USA. We could adopt that convention to give Palmtalk a more international feel.

OK Shon,

I don't think anyone would mind if we use this thread as a challenge and invitation to all Aussies to join in. After all, haven't we all fantasized about having more Wals and Greenleafs contributing? :) Come on Mates.

With everyone talking this "ocker" I have this image of some old guy living down the bottom of the paddock in a rusty corrugated iron shed lean too, with an old FJ Holden ute that runs on beer with a milk crate as a seat, and a shotgun to shoot the wild boar and intruders. LOL Either that or Alf from Home and Away.

Seriously to those outside this country, we don't actually speak like this. Sometimes a strange word may appear, and we don't even notice we're saying it.

Don't be scared of coming to Australia. You CAN understand us. :)

Time is something in short supply around here, usually I am fartarsing around like a mole at christening, trying to do my stuff, things that other people want, tripping over the dogs, pacifying the birds and keeping the dreaded damping off from my babies. Today I awoke at the crack of lunch after a late night doing things that should have been completed a week ago, watered my newly germinated seedlings, potted up on the weekend, moved a few things to warmer positions, baked a cake, loaded the dishwasher, found an iron after much searching, then changed my mind, fed the house plants, cleaned out the birdies' bedroom, put a bandaid on the finger that bertie bit (a naughty bird who wanted to stay out instead of going back into his room) sprayed a big cane toad with dettol to end his reign of terror, hung out a load of washing that I did yesterday, brought in a load that I hung out a week ago, spent an hour calming down a gay friend who had thrown a huge hissy fit over an eggplant and was verging on hysteria, came up with a convincing chinese accent to convince a persistant creditor that she had the 'long numba', missed my daily sermon from Oprah, hopefully my life wont collapse into ruin from the lack of inspiring input, and made a half hearted attempt at some housework. The late and great Quentin Crisp got it wrong when he said after 4 years it gets no worse. A quick meal of coffee with UHT milk ( the fridge blew up 3 weeks out of warranty) and nice nourishing lamington and here I am managing to share a few words of life's experience with other palmophiles before attempting to clean and shine the old Caroma De Luxe.

Aussies have pound for pound the best and funniest dialect of english. I can listen to an Aussie speak about nothing and not get bored. I guess I should have married an Aussie women, that way the nagging would entertainment. How would an Aussie women tell her husband to take out the trash? Anyway, I wish more would hop on board.

From these images, Australia looks like the moon with a few seafront towns. Is there life on the north-west coast?

No doubt that would be one giant walk in the dark to an Internet café for some palm growers.
