Double headed Sabal palmetto

Phil

Recommended Posts

A lady from central Florida contacted me. She is moving and looking for a home for a decades old Sabal palmetto with two heads. She said it was acquired by her grandfather. I thought it would be worth showing a photo as you don't see such things that often. Let me know if you think you might know of a future home for this palm.

It will be difficult not to split it even after moving it. Please protect it the very best you can!

She should contact the University of Florida. They have two on campus already. Maybe they are looking for a third?

Its lovely. Surely somebody will want to give it a home. I wouldnt mind having it as a talking piece in the front lawn.

That's gonna need some serious bracing. I can't see it getting much larger heads without splitting. Gravity will win in the end. Randy

That's a low split... reminds of the one at 10th and 10th in Palmetto Florida. Makes you wonder if some contemporaneous event causes twinning. Is anyone collecting instances of twin, triple and fasciated cabbage palms?
