Got this purple-foliaged Lagerstroemia at the TFTS sale yesterday, grown by Bloomin' Good. Supposedly has pink flowers, but the red foliage is cool enough. This was the only one there (and it was pricey); most people walked by it, thinking it was a purple-leafed guava.

It's endangered, native to one Malaysian limestone island: http://www.iucnredlist.org/apps/redlist/details/31384/0

Have no idea what it is, but it looks cool.

It's a crape myrtle species. Sorry, I should have indicated that.

rolleyes.gifdrool.gif The purple looks great does it get a bloom? If so what color ?

Palms not just a tree also a state of mind

Ari--

I bought it. Going to grow it out at a friend's place here in SoFla. Seeds came via Thailand, but not sure from whom.

BTW, I was incorrect about it being one island; it's a archipelago: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langkawi

Steve--

Flowers are supposed to be pink. Not sure how big or showy though. Hopefully it will bloom as a young tree.

Nice foliage! That would also be a good one to use with hybridizing tropical CMs.

Good call. I'd consider trying with L. indica as well. Hopefully it blooms young...

Bumping up to illustrate this tree's fast growth and summer foliage. Vigorous growing in SoFla conditions. Loses some purple as leaves mature, but still thick and attractive. No flower buds yet. (This tree sacrificed about half of this foliage to "donate" about 30 cuttings. Will keep the interested apprised of their development.)

While not as purple, it looks healthier...!
