Just a simple question for most of you... What is the best tool to cut off the old leaflets / clean the trunk of a sabal palmetto? I have tried numeros things and im sure there's something out there that's easier and cleaner. Thanks in advance for all of your help! -Justin in VB

For small palms, I use a Japanese folding saw, For larger ones a small chain saw. For a really large one, I have no experience as of yet....

I just pull them off. It's not the easiest way, but it's more natural for the trunk. Use a shovel to bend them out at times.

What we use in the field after digging them up and they're laying on the ground is a square sharp shovel.

Not sure what you could use for a planted verticle one though.
