I planted this tree a few years ago as a 15gal. Been doing pretty well on just rainfall, although its branch structure is a little sub-par...

Flowers are larger than L. speciosa, but flower clusters are a bit smaller.

In australia we know these as I think common name "song india".

Grows so well they have self sewn all over the place.

Flowers are not as large as yours in the picture but in lilac and dark pink.

I am pretty sure the one that we commonly have in Australia is L. speciosa. I love Lagerstroemia, one of my favourite... they grow so fast & are so hardy!! I have one is about to open.. it is supposed to have white flowers, but the buds are purple  . I guess we shall see what happens in the next few days...

Regards, Ari :)

Here in Cali we ahve the common L. indica.

That picture suggests that it might be worth it to experiment with tropical lagerstromeas here . . . .

Ari--

Did I ever send you seed of the white L. speciosa from FL? I collected some seed from those (four trees in Lauderhill), but I can't recall if I distributed seed. Not sure if they'll come true. I just started some more cuttings of it at Jesse Durko's when I was out there a couple weeks ago.

Yes... but none of them germinated :(. The yellow poincianna, however, are growing strong. Can't wait till they flower...
