Hi,

After a lovely day with an blue sky and 26C/78.8F I take some shots of this new palm for here in the garden during the summer. This afternoon I have been to an importer to got some Bismarckia for my own small business to sell, after seeing them I could not resist it to keep one of them for myself!:mrlooney:

I liked them before, but defitnely like them even more right now! :)

Weather going to be even better this weekend with tomorrow 27-29C/80.6-84.2 and sunday will be the same but with way more humidity and some possible heavy thunderstorms at the end of the day. Next week going to be good growing weather in this early summer period with 21-23C/70-74F and humid with time to time a shower, I guess the weeds going to grow also like crazy next week. Nighttemperaturen going also the be fine and above the 10C/50F. If this a little taste how the rest of the summer would be, then I can't wait to see more

Very Nice - why don't you plant that bismarck? The Bismarck and P. dactylifera are the only two palms I am yet to acquire to satisfy myself (for now). The former is gaining a unprecedented popularity over here - more than even the venerable royals!

You be certain the site for planting that Bismarckia is permanent; they do not do well in transplants once in the ground, just like Sabals.

It is a beautiful tree.:hmm:

Because I can't! However I do grow several palm species like Trachycarpus, Chamaerops, Phoenix, Washingtonia in the garden, i still live in the Netherlands not the coldest part but to cold for a Bismarckia. It will be a good containerplant for on the terrace at the south of the garden with loads of sunshine and heat but going inside when the winter is coming. ;)

Beautifull palm! I also like them!

Plant it in a big pot and set it on a sunny place near a south facing wall to get some reflected heat.

I am seeking for cold hardy palms!

Wow that thing is a monster! Must have been heavier than hell. Probably won't miss a beat either.

Gorgeous palm, Robbin. Looks like it needs a bigger pot. You'll need a forklift to move it when it gets larger.

Robbin, the Bismarckia's are spectacular and all the rage in Guatemala right now fetching handsome prices for small specimens. They need an awful lot of room though and I'm sure you will soon be building a conservatory! Good Luck, Peter

Thanks people. The Bismarckia is not a really fast grower here, with mean that's how strange it sounds positive because it won't be to big to soon. :winkie:

Going to place it in a bigger pot for sure indeed.

I am just guessing but I will bet that with the stress you are putting it through that it will not be growing too much. I would leave it in that pot.

I do not tink it will grow at all when the temps are below 75F which will be most of the time for you. Think of it as a bonsai and cross your finges during storage. Grow lights would be a good idea other wise I will be surprised to see it alive this time next year.
