Thought I'd show off my Pseudophoenix Ekmanii first.

Photo one taken in April of 2003 after 2 years in the ground. It was bought in 1998 in a "conetainer".

Photo two taken June 13th 2010

And now the "Big Daddy" of the three:

Pseudophoenix Vinifera taken in 2005, Not sure how long it's been in the ground.

Second picture taken in 2010 and yup, it's grown a bit. It sometimes gets a lot of water when I refill the Lily Pond and forget to shut off the water and it over flows for an hour or two.

There is something about Pseudophoenix I find really captivating. Your specimens are really great. P sargentii and P vinifera are not really slow palms when you look how slow P eckmanii grows. P eckmanii is slower than a slow cycad by the looks of it. Your P vinifera is a monster, and I like. :D

Hey Steve,

I certainly can vouch for the slow growth of Pseudophoenix. I think I have all three as well, but I haven't put any in the ground just yet. Seems I have had these for a whole lot of years. Here's a shot of the bench:

:(post-3769-12765043626896_thumb.jpg :( I think they're upset with me. Now, I'll have to upgrade their pots or place them in the garden somewhere. There're three Cocothrinax crinita in the upper left corner of the photo and some citrus trees in the upper right corner; the rest are Pseudophoenix spp. :hmm:

I like your plants Steve, I have only seen P. Ekmanii from illustrations and it is fascinating - quite other-worldly! Perhaps one day I will find one here.

At first I thought you had changed favorite beverages when looking at your eckmanii photos!! I HOPE you not drinking that now... :D

Pretty good growth on 2 out of the 3. I'll be germinating P. sargentii seed soon, so it's interesting to see how their growth speed is. Apparently they speed up after they have some trunk on them

Someone told me it was good for any "bugs" I might pickup in the jungle. :-)

Okay this a species I have totally avoided because of the reputation for being appallingly slow. Now that I have seen the sargentii and vinifera, its time to keep an eye out for one or two. I have quite a few palms here that have shown less growth in a similar time frame. Thanks for the inspiration.

Peachy, you always avoid palms that you think may be slow. You should open your horizons and get fast and slow palms!

Now now Zeeth, you have youth on your side. When you are a very old lady like me, the thought of paying good money for something you will never live to see grow to any size worth mentioning, comes into every palm purchase decision. I want something they can sit me under and tell me I planted it. (even if I forget it 2 minutes later)

Come on Peachy, "very old lady"? Unless you're using a "very old" picture as your avatar, you are a young "chick". If you think you're old then at 67, what the heck am I fooling around w/palm seeds? I must be ancient.

Steve, while I have no intention of giving my age away, let me just say I think my car is about the same age as Zeeth, and some of my shoes are definately older.

That tells me nothing and I wasn't asking your age. :-=) My truck was bought new in 1992 so that proves nothing. Cheery O' and all that stuff. OOPs that Brit talk not Australian.

Sometimes I feel like that, but then I take another breath and the feeling passes, so I go out and acquire more palm seeds. Have any idea how long it will take a Corypha umbraculifera to grow to maturity? My seedling is about three inches tall after four years.
