Here's a cool and very hardy desert bromeliad to 15F (-9.4C), forget the name. Flowers are small blue but only last around a week. Leaves turn red and last for months.

Likes full sun to mostly sunny.

Salut.

This plant, Fascicularia pitcairnifolia, is a large, terrestial bromeliad from the Andes mountains of Chile. It grows quite well in the San Francisco area and would easily grow in the Mediteranean climate areas of Europe. The plants prefer heat, sun, and cool nights. They prefer plenty of water but can tolerate dry conditions with minimal irrigation. They must have very good drainage. In one private garden here this species has covered an area of 24 square meters (3mx8m) on a steep, rocky slope.

I have plenty of good landscape type dyckias for sale. I am also certified to send to Washington. Instead of telling you all about them, here is a page I put together, but I do have many more types that I haven't listed yet.
