It has flowered a few times but none as impressive as this one .

Looks like a few fruits may have formed on another flower on the side closer to the Dypsis .

Hope to finally get some seeds on this , as i could do with a good chew :rolleyes:

That is a beautiful palm Michael!

I dare say there are no Betels in FL that look quite like that one.

I hope you have a fence.... Once the neighbours know you have a fruiting betel nut, it might be a bit hard to fend them off....

Love the vibrant greens on this palm, nice specimen Michael. I guess Hawaii is no different than the rest of the tropical world, a fruiting betel is fair game either in a fenced yard or not.

Beautiful. I love all the Arecas and have several smaller or dwarf species. I'd love to try a full size A. catechu but given my last 3 winters that will remain a wish only.

Thanks all :D Other plants in pic are ;

bottom left a cola tree

beside that a clump of Costus Kiss of Death

with 5 flowers :drool:

and beside the Betel an Amorphophallus paeoniifolius

also a few pots of bamboo [ 2 unknown sp.]

I am not game to plant out front because of the power lines .

Don't think anyone will come to pick the nuts :angry:

You would be surprised by some people Michael, when my Betel had ripe seed, a ute load of guys pulled up with a ladder and picked the whole lot, when I confronted them they offered to give them back and then asked could they have the next bunch :lol:

I had one flowering in my garden last year. The flowers have an amazing sweet smell stronger than Jasmine. I sure miss mine since the cold killed it. Tim

I just noticed the smell when I walked past it earlier this morning , a very pleasant fragrance . No seeds set on the older infl. Maybe a little bit of assistance is needed to pollinate them :rolleyes:

most likely the heavy rains has washed away the pollen , lets hope this sunny dry spell up here in the 'wet' tropics keeps up .
