No caption needed.   Picture from Maui Nov. 2017 (on the wetter side of the island, but others were growing ferociously on the dry side too.

I have one in Stuart, Florida. They are very fast growers. Beautiful trees. But as Meg mentioned they are brittle. I routinely have smaller branches drop when wind is over 40 mph.

I would still recommend the tree. Just place the tree away from screen enclosures.

So many palms, so little room

Place far from buildings, sheds, porches & driveways. When those things keel over in a storm they take out anything beneath them.

I'd like to be under the sea in an octopus' garden in the shade.

Wish I could claim to have mine in the ground in my 5b/6a locale but mine is in a 20 gallon pot and it over winters in garage with my other potted cold hardy palms. I do have the benefit of a "suntube" light that I put the plant under and it almost touches the ceiling.  It keeps most of it's leaves and I keep it on the damp side but not overly wet and seems to do just fine. Bought it as a 18" plant and is 6/7 foot tall now.
