Dypsis Pembana ???

This is in the Diamond Head area, hot, dry desert style. Have driven by it a million times

finally noticed it. Looked it up and it appears to be a solitary Pembana, but maybe mayotte, or

some other Dypsis.

I think it is pembana but it has that look of a D cabadae x D madagascariensis also.

Thats my two cents.

I have no clue what it is but it is fantastic. Question: Does D. mayotte grow well in FL or is it one of those CA Dypsis that hate humid heat?

It sure does look like D. pembana. It's hot with relatively little rainfall down there at sea level on the leaward side of Oahu, but it's not dry air like the desert, it's pretty humid, so whatever this is would probably do well in South Florida.

From another thread-here's my sp. mayotte in Hollywood, Florida. Not sure if the id is correct, but that's what I bought it as.

Thanks for the input. I hope it seeds sometime soon. Maybe, if I'm lucky the owner will

let it stay on the palm and let me collect some to share, but I know that Pembana can take a

long time to grow before it does finally seed.

Thanks

Colin

Pembana usually has some ramenta on the crownshaft. Maybe the largest trunk in a D. cabadae clump? I think D. cabadae would be more likely than D. pembana in Oahu. BTW, Diamondhead is a beautiful, picturesque part of Oahu, my friend went to a junior college not too far from there. I stare at that cliff every time I body board at Waikiki Beach!
