This palm is Dypsis robusta crossed with with an unknown palm. It has a lot of color and a rapid growth rate. I think it is going to turn out to be spectacular so I added a planter just for this palm.

Here is the spot in the corner of the lawn a few years ago when my garden was just getting started.

A few rocks, some dirt and a few broms later this is what it looks like.

It grew straight through winter and looks as good as it did at the end of last summerIMG_1576.jpg

Looks like it is going to have plenty of color. The emergent spear is red where the straight Robusta is white.

It has nice wide leaflets that are becoming irregular.

One more. No idea what it is crossed with but I saw a pic that Clayton had of a similar Robusta hybrid that was clumping, so maybe Madagascarensis type.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Looks great Aaron! I'm glad you planted it. How were the roots?

Encinitas on a hill 1.5 miles from the ocean.

It had a few large roods at the bottom of the pot, but was a ways away from rooting out. The soil held together though so it shouldn't have any issues.

Great looking palm! I just planted a Robusta this year as well and it looks like crap right now. Growing fast though! I love rocks too, I get them in the mountains of Temecula at a friends house for free! SO much work but its all worth it.

Grateful to have what I have, Les amis de mes amis sont mes amis!
