Pandanus furcatus for sale, one of the more cold hardy pandans.

Its 8-9ft overall in the pot (about 6-7ft tall in the ground). It has been trimmed to fit in the greenhouse and to prevent injury during transport (to plant and person). I live near both I-75 and HWY301 in Gainesville.

Should be hardy into the mid 20Fs, especially if protected from heavy frost. It has seen 25F (only slight frost) with minor damage.

Asking $150 OBO.

I travel to SW Florida fairly regularly so a drop off could be arranged.

PM me if your interested. I'll try and post some picks giving a better idea of the size of the plant.

If you were only going north to coastal Georgia I would definitely be interested. I lost mine, comparable size, this winter; since we went to the low 20's I kept it in a pot in the garage. It worked the previous winter, but not this one. I need a replacement!

I have two ancient ones in calcutta both of the green and yello variety. Oddly enough, they produce bountiful offshoots in solid green, solid yellow and mixed despite heavy pruning each year.

Sorry Tank - didn't mean to meander off your thread.

David,

I travel up to Fenandina Beach fairly regularly. I could meet you in Yulee or a little north of there in GA. I'm in no hurry to get rid of the plant. I just have too much in the greenhouse and this guy takes up quite a bit of real estate. Plus it bites. When the leaves grow back by the end of summer, it will be pushing 12' in the pot, too big for my green house.

Good lookin' P. furcatus Tank! I've got on in the ground, smaller than yours, that I didn't water the entire last few months of Summer. It's yellow, but alive and it didn't drop any leaves, so they are resilient plants for sure!

Great plant and this one is getting big quick. Its getting hard to overwinter and I hate having to trim the leaves so I can fit it in the greenhouse. Needs to be about two hours south of here, planted out and happy.

Have you ever tried the common Hawaiian pandanus (p.odoratissimus)?

Before I moved to the Big Island I grew it in pots when I lived in LA. I had some last 2 winters outside, protected, in pots and they were fine. Where I lived was almost frost free and I have no idea how they do with light frost. The frost level on the island is around 4000' and I haven't seen them here that high, but.

I have seen them here in some chilly places on the island. There is one on the highway in Waimea, almost 3000'.

There are places here where the wild pandanus sprouts all over. If you want to try a few, let me know and I'll collect some keikis for you.

That p. furcatus in the pot from previous post looked beautiful!

Pandanus has been one of my favorite plants all of my life. When I lived in LA I grew about 3 species outside. P. vietchii is very hardy.

I have no idea how much frost or protection you have.

Aloha, Don

I got one of these from Jungle Music. JD Andersen had a big 15 gallon sit in front of his nursery, but it's been sold. Maybe he's got more? I believe Floribunda has them too.
