It has been three years since Hurricane Ike hit Galveston. Many large live oaks and other plants died from the surge of salt water that flooded parts of the island. There were plenty of survivors, especially the palms. Here are some images from our visit to see the Houston area architects competitive sand castle building contest.

That wasn't taken this year right? The Royals up against the pyramids are much much larger, all of the smaller ones, including the ones pictured, died :(.

Galveston was one of the prettiest places in Texas I visited when I was there in the late 1970s.

Hasn't lost a bit of that.

Hmm. That freeze no doubt did a lot of damage.
