Easy there Triode. We're gonna get some monsoonal flow with some higher humidity, from what I read, so don't pop your rocket just yet.

Actually humidity from Mexico will advect northward into California over the next few days. Already El Centro and Mexicali were pushing 60 degrees dew points this afternoon raising the heat index. Thunderstorms are likely over the mountains and deserts into next week. It always seems to occur right when July starts that we get our first really hot weather. But only 92F\ 33.3C at my place today; tomorrow into early next week may hit close to 100F\ 37.7C in the foothill regions of Los Angeles while the valleys well-exceed 100F. Ocean temps are also reaching above 70F\ 21.1 especially in Orange and San Diego counties so nights will become a bit muggy.

Irrigation is important but the heat will be more tropical in nature unlike the dreaded "Santa Ana" conditions that start in Autumn and suck out precious moisture from every living thing!

predicated for high 80's by NOAA. I will make sure all the babies I have planted are protected and watered in over the next few days. This is the warmest night of the year for me. Comfort with just the T-shirt at night.

"During the peak of the heat for Saturday through the Fourth of

July..,high temperatures will reach the mid 90s to 105 in the

inland valleys... 102 to 112 in the upper deserts... and 108 to 116 in

the lower deserts. A shallow marine layer will keep areas near the

coast cooler with highs in the 70s at the beaches to 85 to 95 in

inland coastal areas and lower coastal valleys."

Nice to see some "normal summer" again. Better late than never as last summer bummer.

Though hot, it hasn't been nearly as warm as the original forecast for a variety of reasons. The marine layer inversion has tenaciously held on, keeping temps near normal for the beaches and coastal plain. And the monsoon clouds and higher humidity made for basically normal temps inland. Dew points are high and therefore uncomfortable in places like Palm Springs [DP reading of 73F\ 22.75C]; maximum temp: 102F\ 38.8C [norm: 108F\ 42.2C] though the minimum of 85F\ 29.4C made for a miserable night in the desert. It has not gone much above 90F\ 32.2C for the past 3 days at my LA location; only a few degrees above normal. All in all a fairly uneventful heat wave though severe thunderstorms are breaking out in far eastern California and will increase & move westward tomorrow.

I did not exceed 86F for any one day this weekend. The breeze from the south, and the clouds from the east kept it quite pleasant.

Aside from the high humidity, the weather hasn't been too bad and certainly not as bad as it can get this time of the year. Heat indexes are dangerously high in the low desert; i.e. Mexicali measured a dew point of 81 degrees with a temp of 103F\ 39.4C making if feel like 124F\ 51.1C but that is what they expect in the deserts during summer. It was a warm muggy night even along the coast. Wish some of the heavy thunderstorms over the mountains would move a bit more westward. Like yesterday, it was only 93F\ 33.8C in my area today.

The mugginess should lessen over the weekend as troughs move ashore over the Pacific NW. 7th straight day above 90F\ 32.2C but considering the normal July maximum is 88F\ 31.1C it's basically seasonal. Next week will be more comfortable.

Back to the weather! The forecast seems to be panning out with cooler and drier conditions. Even a little early morning status for the first time in over a week. The coastal clouds will increase this week and temps will likely cool a bit more before the massive high pressure system over the Central U.S. shifts back into California next weekend.

The San Francisco fog reached Walnut Creek yesterday and expected for the next few days. It burned off by 9:30 AM, but was coolish and breezy the rest of the day. It felt good after the heat wave we had last week.
