I'm rather surprised to hear that you've got heavy bud set down there, given this wet winter and cool spring, summer. The Fullerton Arboretum trees have very meager bud, flower quantities this year.

Yes, I'm pretty surprised these trees are blooming so well after our cooler, wetter than normal spring weather. However, these trees bloom pretty heavily every year. Although, last summer they bloomed very little, due to being the coolest summer in 83 years in San Diego.

These trees have bloomed as early as mid to late June in years past.

Wow, those are nice!

I never they bloomed like that here.

There's a specimen in La La Ha Ha Bra that blooms a bit here and there, but nothing like the plants in your pictures.

More pictures!

There's several Royal Poinciana trees around, some bloom very well...and others not so well or at all. The two large trees at the San Diego Zoo have never bloomed. I think they're experiencing photoperiodism since there's a big light next to the trees.

I was surprised to see so many Royal Poinciana trees still blooming in Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs, Palm Desert. I was only able to get into a few neighborhoods because most are gated. Although, I could see many of the trees over the walls.

Here's some of my Royal Poinciana Pics in Photobucket.
