WHAT is this palm? hybrid? mutant? PRETTY!

Hmmm, I never saw this thread. I'm pretty sure it's Ptychosperma elegans that got cold whacked and that triggers some weird entire leaf thing for a while. I had a large trunking one that did the same thing.

$100 says that palm is dead now.

31 days and no picture. Matty - how are you gonna use your 100 bucks?

Wow, this is a real thriller post now, full of crazy suspense :o , gamble, risk  (for Matty if Bill tells the truth, but for Bill too, if he just tried to play for time while the original palm was lost, or maybe there is another unexpected ending!?!?). :bemused:

I can't wait to see the final scene...

The pics now, please, this is too much, it's unbearable!!!

What's the bet now, after 5 months of suspense and rising speculation?!?

What will happen to Matty?!?!?

Or Bill!!!!!

Bill - on August 15th, you stated that you were waiting for the "second leaf to open". Are you telling us that a Ptychosperma elegans, one of the fastest growing palms took 4 months & 6 days to open its second leaf.

I'm calling foul! Your palm died and it took you this long to find a look alike! You could have walked to Florida and back in the time it took the second leaf to open. Methinks I smell a gopher.

Looks like you acquired a replacement palm, tortured it, let it get brown leaves and established weeds so that the knock off would not raise suspicions.

Oh were that it easy Moose... It takes years of skill and practice to keep a palm barely alive... plus, like I said, only got the camera back recently.. leaf opened maybe a month ago..

AND I think its the schefferi version..

Thanks for the laugh Bill. I read BOOM and you show a pic of a crappy looking plant that needs to be put out of its misery. I actually spit coke on my iPad. Too funny.

I really enjoyed the suspense of the first seasons of this major PT's sitcom.

I couldn't wait for the last chapters.

But, hey, what an acme! It's not just a thriller series, it's comedy horror at its best!!!!!!!!

I couldn't expect a funnier Christmas!

It's so terrific it's even joining cult movies!

Hmmm - could this palm be one of the green house casualties? :bemused:

Actually Moose, I was noticing a day or so ago, it appears it was a miracle this one survived and was in the area with the shadecloth that had the highest casualties

I agree with schefferi, I have grown these from very young plants before. Easily confused for elegans when very young!! The prize here goes to BS man for having a great palm species and Pedro for getting the first correct id.

It still looks like one of those Jurassic park palms to me where they somehow managed to put frog DNA in it. I think it has excellent swimming skills!
