The biggest argument i've heard as to why the palm being distributed as Dypsis canaliculata isn't really canaliculata is the lack of ramenta on the abaxial side of the leaves. This is described in Palms of Madagascar as "almost continuous ramenta on the midrib" & "many ramenta to 2mm long." I have 2 of these palms and neither had any ramenta under the leaves when I purchased them (thank you Jeff Searl for the wonderful palms).
