Areca vestiaria seeds

Single stem variety sought. Possible? Send me a PM. Happy to pay the going rate, looking for 100-200 seeds with shipping to Spain. Thanks. smilie.gif

EDIT: I'm of the understanding that single stem A. vestiaria produce seeds of the same, but may also be clumping? Some clarification would help. I believe the "maroon form" is slower, less cold resistant, and seeds can turn out to be either - (i.e maroon leaf or regular green leaf), since they're all the same tree, essentially. According to Dave's Garden, the maroon form is always a clumper. I just want the single stem variety, if possible, regardless of colour!

Anyone? Throw them in a freezer bag, fruit and all. I can swap for a few hundred seeds of Eucalyptus deglupta and a handful of Capsicum pubescens.

John,

From what I have seen and heard, all variations come from a single plant. That is, all shades of orange, maroon, colored new leaf, and not, clustering like crazy, and less so - all will come from the same parent plant. And while it appears to me that the maroon suckers more profusely, I am not sure about a true single orange variation - much less one that would stay true to seed. It wouldn't surprise me if the single stem plants seen occasionally were just a type that suckers a lot less, or that had been trimmed, mowed, or weed whacked, allowing only one mature truck.

Maybe Bo can chime in. He had a stand of orange ones that were definitely not suckering much at all. But I can't remember if they were absolutely single stemmed palms. But even if they were, it would be interesting to know if they were indeed true to seed.

Thanks for the heads up Dean. I think you're right, and pretty sure this has been covered in a previous topic. I just wasn't sure of the "single stem" status. I remember well, Bo's old avatar! I guess if you can grow enough of them you get to pick, but your theory of single stemmed A. vestiaria being thinned-out clumping palms, or just late clumpers is interesting. So, to clarify, I'm after regular, ol' A. vestiaria seeds! 50 or 60 would do. I have PayPal, or how about I donate to the IPS? Hmm... smilie.gif

There are thousands here for the taking. You're welcome to them anytime you're in the neighborhood. :)

BTW - Bo's avatar has always been the D. "Orange Crush" for as long as I remember.

Ah, brain relapse! I remembered seeing orange crownshafts, but as you rightly say, they were D. Orange Crush. rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the offer Dean, but I guess I'd have to come to Hawaii and never leave to take you up on that! biggrin.gif Well, you can always PM me if you have a change of heart. Would love to visit Hawaii too, of course.
