Leucaena sp. (L. esculenta?)

Recommended Posts

This small tree, listed as Leucaena esculenta, has been at Alice Keck Park since at least the 1960s, maybe longer. (Pretty long-lived for a Leucaena.)

Not sure if the ID is correct or not. Anyone know for sure?

Nice white winter flowers, tropical-looking foliage.

This one didn't seem to set seed. Not sure how it might perform in SoFla.

Very nice tree. A couple online references suggest esculenta is deciduous, is that true of this tree? I'd like to grow some!

Not sure if this goes deciduous. If so, it may do in response to drought? Looked pretty leafy at the coldest time of year. That said, there is some doubts about the ID of this tree; I'll need to do some more searching once I get my new computer. (Been on a friend's parttime after mine gave up the ghost...)
