1 gallon baby (hard-grown from Gary Wood's place) out in the unprotected cold for four nights of 28-29 F (-1 C) plus another whole night of about 31 F (-.5C)

My neighbor's tried this one for two years running. Last year's plant did not survive the average SoCal winter. This year's model appears killed outright. (vs. slow death last year). 18" seedlings, in ground, 26F.

Yes!

The shoe's a size 12, 12" (30 cm) long.

Not much damage.  Might not be a no if the pundits are right about it being tender.

A specimen has been at Lake Wire since at least May of 2011, possibly earlier. From 2011 to 2020, it has survived an ultimate low of 26F and an advective freeze down to 28F in 2018.  I included a Google Maps link and a photo with the Caryota no boxed in red.
