OK, I do have an alterior motive here. In the last 3 months I saw a picture of an incredible pool here, but after hours of searching, and finding many pics, I have not been able to find the one I am looking for. So, in hopes of putting together a great pool thread on PT, I am also hoping to see the one I am looking for as well. Post them up, guys.

Fill it up with good red wine,

Jeff Searle and Mike Harris (Waykoolplantz) have ver palmy and tropical motiff looking pools. Mike has all very rare large clay potted palms with a drip irrigation system. It is simply gorgeous!.

I don't have photos, perhaps they could post a couple? :winkie:

Also there were old posts by either/or both from Manny (Manolitus) and/or Mr. Crammer (Street124) that had a incredible palm collections surrounding their pools. Just can't remember which one or both. I've never seen them in person just here on PT, maybe that is why I can't remember. Perhaps they would be kind enough to post some poolside photos?

Wow Benz that looks so cool just like the kind of area where I have a beach cottage too but on the South coast of SA, I can smell the fresh fish flapping on the rocks, lobsters, mussels sea shells hmmm sea air. Want to get the fishing rods out and fire up the old Landie. Took one of these from google earth incredible.

Scott and Bruce, awesome poolscapes.

Here are some pics of my pool. The landscaping is still a work in progress as I slowly rip out the stuff that was planted before I got into palms (ie the Duranta). My goal is to complete it this year. I built the pool in 2004 with the idea of making it a lagoon in the middle of a jungle. The aerial shows how thick the jungle is around the pool. I have some tall coconuts that arch over the water which creates a dramatic effect and provides shade when swimming. The pool is on the large side with something like 44,000gallons of water. There is also a covered bar/outdoor kitchen connected to the patio area. If you build a pool this is a must IMO. The biggest mistake is the bamboo (B.chungii, B.lako and S.brachycladum). Never plant bamboo anywhere near a pool unless you like cleaning your pool after every wind event. Sorry about the pics with people, but this is all I have right now. The pics are from August of 2011.

Turned mine into a large deep fish and lily pond all the eco unfriendly chemicals were driving me and the wildlife baty, with our high rainfall not too soon either. A type of very cute little flying fox alters the overhanging L. Chinensis leaf by nibbling the main ribs in a circle until it collapses into a neat tent where they all sleep during the day creating guano to feed the algae that feed the daphnia to feed the fish, the creatures hate the smell of chlorine and would abandon home and hearth every time I threw in the chemical. The leaf remains undamaged for its natural life just droops even more.

If you are looking for extreme tropical style pools, nothing probably tops the Venetian pool in Coral Gables. The pool has waterfalls, caves, bridges and lots of trees and palms, with some dating back to the 20s. The pool is something like 800,000gallons and they fill and empty it every day (this was common for a lot of pools in the old days in Miami). No chemicals are used in the water.

I cant see the whole pool, but I adore this understated look, not to distract at all from the pools sent in (the designer in me farting) but I honestly think the infinity and curly wurly island Shangri-La pools have all seen their days. Post retro rules IMO OK.

All you need is a pair of Sealyham terriers handled by their very own footman and you are away.

I sure hope this is a saltwater pool that they pump in from the ocean. 800k gallons of fresh water per day would be a nightmare of a water bill and a ridiculous waste.

Its fresh water that comes from the aquifer that flows under the pool and when its drained, the water goes right back to where it came from, so there is little waste. They have to drain the pool since there are no chemicals allowed to be placed in the water. I also don't think there is a pump as the pool is spring fed. When I lived in Coconut Grove back in the 80's a neighbor of ours had an old pool that you filled, used and drained when done. I don' remember it having a pump. There was nothing but a big valve you opened to fill it and another one to drain it. Apparently this was very common back in the day in Coral Gables and Coconut Grove which sit on top of the best fresh water in Southern Florida.

One other thing about the Venetian pool in case y'all outside of SoFla aren't familiar with it, this is the PUBLIC (municipal) pool for the city of Coral Gables. Can you believe it? It has to be seen to be fathomed. Truly spectacular and it says a lot about the vision that went into the planning of that most gorgeous of cities. (The pool is a fantastic re-use of the limestone quarry from which that city's beautiful coral stonework comes.) I don't think a municipal pool in the country can even come close to this creation. Anybody interested in plants, urban planning and architecture who visits south Florida owes it to themselves to explore every nook and cranny of Coral Gables and to see a perfect example of how careful planning and beautiful landscaping can set a place apart from its surroundings. George Merrick was an amazing man and his ideas and accomplishments are pretty awesome, especially considering his relatively short life.

First thing you notice about the place is how it smells stronger than a pool store, of CHLORINE. I don't know about the "no chemicals"... you can't even breathe inside the cave area!
