Joseph, those look like the 2 I own (1 is a year older and much larger). Is that a Patric(k) Schafer band leftover in the top container?

Too bad, that sounds like it'd be an interesting mix.

Hi all,

Just re-booting this thread to see if anyone has any pinnate Butia x PJ Sunkha yet?

I have one that is approx four years old and is splitting but not pinnate. Sorry about all the mess in the background of the photo.

To me this is totally different to BxPJCoccoides, as Gary pointed out earlier in this thread. The leaves split differently, and it is much more glaucous, less green like the BxPJC. The V of the leaves is still very flat, like parajub, and so i do think it is a hybrid.. Just quite a bit different from it's cousin.

I'd be interested to see pics of other people's.

I have one 4-5 feet tall and fully pinnate, but can't post pictures on this forum.  PM me your e-mail and I will shoot you a pic from this morning.

Yes, that's the one Richard.  I have to post pics to the FB group since I can't post them from my phone here.  You definitely have a hybrid as well!

Bump.. @Ben in Norcal is there any chance of an updated pic of your BxSunkha please?

Such a cool looking palm, and much faster in your climate than mine.

Wow - mega quick response and... WOW WOW WOW what a palm. It's got the perfect mix of both parents.

I am amazed at how different it is from Bx PJC.

Thanks for the pic Ben :greenthumb:

Yes, it is much more upright than my two other BxP crosses (B. paraguayensis x P. cocoides and B. odorata x P. cocoides.)

Also seems that the leaflets are much droopier than my bxpjc. It’s cool looking. Do they emerge from the rachis at a “v” or flat?

Looking great! I got a first one 3 years ago that is definitely not an hybrid. Patric sent another one last summer that I just planted yesterday and looks like the real thing.

@alohas do you have photos of the two for comparison please?

I kinda meant the two BxPJS (hybrid and not) but it would be good to see all the photos you have.

I shall post photos of mine later.

Mine turned out to not be a successful cross, thankfully Patrick has offered to replace it. I really like this cross and am looking forward to growing it! I

Here's a pic of my B. odorata x P. sunkha from Patric... it's a little slow but would probably speed up if I was brave enough to put it in the ground!

I've had it five years so I'm guessing it's about 6/7 years old total

These hybrids look nice and droopy. Mine are much stiffer. Not sure which I prefer. I always feel like droopy palms look more tropical. I guess it’s the coconut archetype.

So returning to this thread, I received my replacement BxPJSunkha from Patrick recently. As he has demonstrated in the past with others he stands by his crosses. :greenthumb:

So my B x sunkha looks very similar to your Josh, mine has been in the ground for 3 years, it is painfully slow, and quite glaucous not the green like I am seeing here.  I will have to snap a pic but its coming down cats and dogs outside right now thanks to feeder bands from tropical storm Crystabal.  I got this from Patric, I have never had anything from him not be what it was sold as.  I also got a B x parajubaea cocoides at the same time and likewise it has really not done anything in the same period of time.  It also seems to have very small pseudo spines on the petioles, the sunkha has none.
