Does anyone have experience with this one along the Gulf Coast or hot and humids zones in 8b/9a. Is the hybrid slower than bxPJT? Any updates from anyone growing this one now that summer is coming to and end in the Northern Hemisphere.

I have all of the his Butia hybrids from the PJ line. Honestly it's a little hard to say. Mine have only been in the ground for a year now and aren't much to look at. The BxPJT were larger and more vigorous appearing when I received them, and one seems to be really taking off. It also seem more PJ-like than the others - the leaves are not very plumose. I am very interested to see how it turns out.

From talking to Bo on here and others, I think these all start off slow in our area but eventually take off and grow well.

Mine is super slow. Barely grown the last 3 years in the ground.

Certainly not a slow palm for me. I will post some pictures from today - they are going to post wrong from my iPhone but don’t know how to resolve that!

Yeah, I don't often post to this forum anymore due to this issue.  It doesn't happen on any other site, so not sure what to do to resolve!

It's hard to get a good shot of mine. I have a lot of palms planted densely on a large mound, growing out. This is my biggest BxPJT.

How does this one grow to other hybrids if you have something to compare it to?

That one has been in the ground since early spring. Grows better than all the other BxPJs. So far is growing better than a JxS. My mules are all bigger and faster so hard to compare directly.

well.... i took the leap and have 2 of these hybrids now. decided to plant in a shadier north part of yard.  less worried about our quick winter and more our long summer. Roots should be slightly cooler.  Also got a JxS and bxJT.

BxP take extreme heat just fine...don't skimp on the sun!

Yeah, I don't think there's any evidence these struggle with summer heat, sun and humidity, even along the Gulf coast. I would give 'em as much sunlight as possible

Updates on these BxPJS? Here’s mine today. Although Patric informed me that it’s not Butia Odorata he used for his PJ crosses but a hybrid butia, did not specify of which butia variants.

@Ben in Norcal could we get a 2yr update pic please ?  It's time to make another Patric order trying to decide on BxPJS or B/J x S. My BxPJT is absolutely glorious but not sure how big of a difference between the 2 hybrids. Thanks for any info in advance =)

Well I pulled the trigger and got me a BxPJS from Patric. It's amazing how well this thing is growing in a 4x10 pot. The base is taking up the whole opening. I still got a 8x12 BJxS on the way, so looking forward to that =)

That one looks great in a 4x4x10!  I bought three BxLyto Wedd and one BxPJS liners last fall and put them in standard round 1g pots in early December.  My BxPJS is pretty close to the size of yours now, I am going to figure out a spot for it in the front yard asap.  I just planted a BxLyto last weekend, it had filled up a 1g pot with roots and was already trying to root into the ground.  Both of them seem to be pretty quick growing hybrids, at least at this size!

@Merlyn I literally have failed in my attempts to keep Patrix liners alive BxLytoWedd- BYxJ and JxB all killed by my hands =/ Now 3x9 or bigger have all done well and are in the ground,  go figure. I need to update on another thread what 2 months in the Texas ground will do for these hybrids :D So far BxLytoWedd and BxPJT are hard to be beat

Wow, mine were nowhere near that size when I received them a while back. I might have one that is getting close to that size but I think yours is still bigger.

@OC2Texaspalmlvr I bought 2 each of BYxJ and JxBY in early 2019.  One BYxJ died from crown rot a few months later, and I have a JxBY in a 1g with a spear pulled in May.  I should have just planted it last fall.  The BYxJ and JxBY that I planted are doing awesome.  They just suffer in pots here for some unknown reason.  The BxLW and BxPJS have done great in pots over the past 8 months.  Here's my BxPJS today, I might plant it this afternoon.

I totally agree with this as my BxLytoWedd absolutely didn't mind pot life. Hoping my JxB doesn't mind 1 winter in a pot. I'll prolly bring in when it gets cold and wet.

Here we go…definitely a lot more upright than the other Parajubaea crosses.

Thanks Ben , how much sun does it get , seems kinda shaded out. So I ended up getting the BxSunkha so now have it and BxPJT so we shall see how they turn out. Need to find a spot for the BxPJS all the prime real estate is taken in the front yard.

Picture is in the morning - it probably gets around half day sun.  My yard is increasingly challenging to find sunny spots in, which is just as well given it's about a billion degrees here this time of year.

I’m currently in the process of acquiring a couple of Patrix hybrids, and seeing all the posts of people who have purchased his palms is making me so excited to get mine.  My dream palms are a jubutia x parajubaea Sunkha and a (Butia Yatay x Jubaea) x Lytocaryum Weddellianium. Does anyone have any pictures of Lytocaryum hybrids?

I planted my BxPJS seedling on Sunday, it is in a mostly high-and-dry area in full sun.  There are two fronds with some windows, but none are fully pinnate.  It has a single 0.5gph dripper running 30 minutes per day = 0.25 gallons of water per day.  Hopefully it'll like this spot!

I have never seen these particular hybrids on his availability list. Or you literally meant dream palms ? I have a JxBY , BxLytoWedd and a BxPJS from Patric and my fav so far BxPJT. Have you already placed your Patric order ?

T J

TJ,

I literally meant my dream palms! I have not seen any of the hybrids  I listed anywhere, but after time studying Butias, Parajubaea, Judaea’s and Lytocaryum, among a couple other species, I decided those crosses would be my favorite.

I know that with hybridization so many variables determine the different manifestations of the parent plant’s phenotypes and other genetics, but I am very sure that they would produce remarkable palm hybrids. I desperately want to find a (B.Yatay x Jubaea) x Lytocaryum Weddellianium. The smaller size trunk of the Lytocaryum with the cold hardiness of the jubaea and Butia, and the fronds of a Jubutia would be my dream palm

I haven’t placed my order yet, I’ve been given an older list, and I’m trying to get more information from him, but I know he is a very busy person, so as soon as I hear back from him, I will (hopefully) be placing my order.

Would you mind putting up some pictures of your Butia x Lytocaryum Weddellianium up? I haven’t been able to find very good pictures on the web.

thanks,

Colby
