Happened across this nice page (http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/2876/) on Dave's Garden web site that has a lot of photos illustrating the many different colors occurring in the palm family. Quite a palette!

I don't have many colorful palms, and probably none that can compete with those on the above page, since I'm limited to what I can grow due to our cold winters. I do have a few with some color that I'm growing in pots:

What a thread!!! For some people it's stilt palms, some it's spines, but i love different coloured palms. I've been searching here (palmtalk) for different coloured palms and have chased a few up but still plenty more to go. Tjwalters, that page rocks. i found it a month or so ago and i'm glad i did. Best reference tool around for coloured palms. I may be wrong but i think a guy on here wrote it (palmbob?)!

Correct me if i'm wrong, but post #1, third pic down looks alot like a Foxtail. My palms are all too young for much colour, so i can't add much to this thread, but i have this pic from a few weeks ago of some Dypsis lutuscens.

It's most definitely a Ptychosperma. Grown from seed. Same plant as post #1, picture 4.

Nice D. lutescens. :) I should break down and get one of those.

Nice palms people, keep those pics comin...

tjwalters, those D. lutescens were planted by the previous owner and nearly got the chop when i moved in, but after some good advice and showing me how to trim back the base of these, i now have alot of time for them. They REALLY respond well to water and fert + mulch. The results are a palm with burgundy red spears, waxy white trunk and cold/drought tolerant, plus they work well as a screen. They get a bad rap cause they're everywhere, but once Joe Public really knows and plants out something like C. macrocarpa's everywhere are we going to think the same about a palm that is rare(ish) now but has potential to be common place due to it's own beauty? I say give in and join the masses people. :D

realarch, that P caesia is amazing. Just more evidence that supports my hunt for this elusive gem of a palm.
