I now have at least 12 sprouts from these seed (I did not dig around too much to see the exact amount). They were planted in 4 separate plastic tubs and the ones nearest the heat have sprouted the best. I put them on top of my hot water heater, in a small closet. The hot water heater is one of those super insulated deals so not much heat escapes but the ones touching the un-insulated hot water outlet pipe have sprouted 1st, so this tells me bottom heat helps and I will probably have wayyyy better than 50% sprouting on these seed. I'm guessing at least 80% of the seed are good. By the way the ones I took out of the tubs had only root sprouts but after being put in small pots and in full sun they took only two days to form a 1st leaf sprout from the root, if that makes sense. Until they were put in sun they were very reluctant to form that leaf sprout, so I would get them in good light as soon as the sprouts are an inch long or so. I hope everyone who is interested in this hybrid got some seed. Great work Tim!

As Paul Nabonnand, Tim will be remembered in the future as the first horticulturist to make an intergeneric cross for the first time( Parajubaea x Syagrus).

Good work Tim!!!

Anybody got seedlings or seeds? I want SOME!

Posted

What happened to these!!!??

Posted

I got a batch of seeds sent to me here in London and they were spread around Europe but haven't really heard many updates. Out of the seeds I kept, I only have two seedlings remaining and they're quite slow... just pushing out their third leaves now.

Posted

That's disappointing. I would have thought the syagrus would give it speed. :indifferent:

Here are some that are just over 1 year, planted from seed. Not too bad of growth rate for that time, especially since a lot of palms grow slow before trunking. These are not for sale.....yet.

Whoooo! You are lucky! I will pay good money for some of those! I ditto Justin's sentiment. Please PM me if you want to sell. What happened to Hopper? Seems like he could get us more seeds. Mike, have you seen any sub-zero temps with those seedlings?
