Areca vestiaria maroon leaf

Jeff in St Pete

Recommended Posts

I visited Jerry and Cindy Andersen at their home and nursery in March of 2009 and during my visit they gave me a hand full of Areca vestiaria maroon leaf seeds. Almost all of them germinated, but one plant in particular grew faster than the rest. Of course as soon as I pulled the plant out to take a photo, my Rottie had to check it out.

I love both, the palm and the puppy? (is it a puppy?) Lucky you (for the palm :winkie: )

Thanks Patricia. Some others from the same seed batch were auctioned off at prior meetings of the Costa Rica Palm Society. My dog Chloe is 2.5 years old, not much of a puppy anymore. :)

Thanks Frank. She's a great dog.

Just curious if your palm is planted in the ground? I grew one for a few years in Tampa under heavy canopy. Coming out of Winter the new leaves would open small and deformed, but it would quickly grow out of it. I left Tampa in 2006 so I don't know if it's still alive.
