Here is a new photo of my solitary Medemia argun. To save the presbyopes from having to use their reading glasses, I have included a photo of my label ! :

I'd never even heard of this palm. Your looks like it's in top condition. :greenthumb:

Your Medemia argun looks good. You have some very nice palms growing. What area in Venezuela are you located? Your elevation?

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Neat to see such a rare palm growing well. The yellow petioles are really pretty.

Hi Al in Kona

I'm in Cojedes, central Venezuela at around 600 feet elevation.

I have had little success in inserting photos into messages. I could not believe that I have to export my photos to Photobucket before they can be inserted into messages - in g-mail with Picasa it is so simple. This seems to be really complicated. So lets try it - here is a photo of my Medemia argun at just 5 years

I think it happened!

Hola David: te saludo desde el Norte de Argentina

Para insertar fotos en los mensajes puedes utilizar la seccion "Attach files" en la parte baja de la ventana para escribir los mensajes. Debes seleccionar "More reply option"

Jose

Note: Text in Spanish is a brief explanation of how to attach pictures in messages

Thanks

Dear David,

Beautiful visual of the Medemia Argun,I think is also known as nubiean desert palm.I have bought 10 to 12 seeds from RPS.com and got about 90% germination from those seeds and i have retained about 2 saplings of this and rest was distributed among my friends.

Here are the visuals of it.And in my palm seeds germination thread i had posted visuals of these seeds and in a separate thread i have given ref. of Articles as to how seeds were collected as said by Tobie Spencer the owner of RPS.com

And these palms grow very well in my climated but they are still remaining in containers as of now !

Here are the videos of that 2 palm.

And all these palms do have the bluish green leaves, which are very beautiful to look at.

Lots of love,

kris.

I've noticed that those videos are from January 2011. Do you have any recent pictures of your palms; are they about the same size as they were in 2011?

Yes it has stopped growing since its in the pot and roots have started to spiral under those containers in an attempt to search for garden soil.i.e almost all the drain holes have roots coming out..

Love,

Kris Achar.

Is anyone growing Medemia in AZ or CA? I'd like to try it in Palm Springs? Anyone have any other uncommon desert palms?
