Anyone know what species of bamboo this is? The culms are huge and resemble Dypsis cabadae trunks, while the branches come out in a single plane in the upper third of the culm and form a "Christmas tree" type appearance (wider below, narrowing almost to a point at the top) when viewed from the broad side. I couldn't get a good photo of the branch structure because the culms were just too tall.

There is a grove of some Guadua species (at least I was told it was) with incredibly nasty thorns, growing at Miami Springs Country Club. Right after Hurricane Wilma, there was an incredible collection of trash hooked into thorns 30' in the air. Would've hated to have to clean all that crap out of it...

SoCal and SoFla; zone varies by location.
