Variegated Sabal palmetto for sale - 3 gallon, ready to plant.

I have been growing a ton of these from seed, collecting from a dozen variegated palms, only to get 1 of a 100 to turn, and 90% of those or more to die. This is one of a few I have of decent size, ready to plant in the ground. Its mother was a blotchy variegate (I am sure there is a term vs striped variegation). It now has 4 variegated leaves, and is ready for a 7 gallon or the ground. Grown in 40% shade and very healthy. I would like to get $300 for this plant.

Sorry for the messy background, a tropical storm just blew stuff around. :) If you want a closeup of any of the particular leaves, I can provide up close pictures of each leaf. I would prefer pickup or I can deliver for a nominal fee. Plant is located in at the farm in Eastern Lee County.

Thanks!

Doh, I got all excited until I saw the price. Wish I had it to spend! I've been watching the 3 planted on 17th Street in Sarasota and the bigger they get the more totally awesome they look. And that guy is not selling at all.

I parked my car around the corner from there to harvest seeds yesterday. Some guy came out and warned me that the old man who lives there is nasty and would chase me off. I told him the palms were in public right-of-way and a utility easement so I do what I want. Got about 1000 seeds.

Good luck! You might want to consider getting a few 1,000 more just in case the first 1,000 comes up snake eyes.

So you parked around the corner so they wouldn't see your car or license plate and then snuck up and took seed from someone's yard and got caught? That makes you no different than the coconut thieves I have to chase off regularly.   One person walks up the street with a pole saw quickly cutting down peoples coconuts and then another person a house or two down picks them up in bunches and throws them in the back of a truck (while leaving debris and cracked nuts in the lawn) and a third person is driving. By the time the homeowner sees the truck it's too late. They say the same thing you do.  Next time, be polite and ask if you can pick up a few seed.

Ya, I'm an old man "GET OFFA MY LAWN!!!!!" ahahaha

You misunderstand Karen, I parked around the corner because it's a very busy road and there was no place to pull off. The palms are hanging directly over a sidewalk on public property. I'm not some palm seed ninja lurking in the shadows. I stood on the sidewalk and picked the seeds by hand.

And I'm sure your coconuts were put to good use rather than rotting.

I'm sorry, but in my opinion, that's one sickly-looking palm. Not a type of variegation that works for me!

I agree with you and that was my 1st reaction also. But I really appreciate how rare this natural mutation is. So uncommon.

This whole conversation is such a south Florida thing. One of the reasons I’ve avoided moving there even though the climate is amazing.

Just neglect and improperly fertilize your Palmetto, and once it starts getting yellow, congrats! You have a free variegated Palmetto.
