Sabal palmetto var. 'Lisa'. Many of the palmate leaflets are fused. Very stiff rigid palmate fronds. If you have ever seen a nice robust one, you would never believe it to be a variant of Sabal palmetto.

They are hard to come by in Florida as well. Some specialty nurseries have a few but want big $ - they won't sell under 15 gallon size. I got mine from Meg. I doubt if there is a Florida nursery certified to ship to California that have S. palmetto 'Lisa'. Meg may have access to seed. You may want to PM her.

The % of the 'Lisa' trait being passed on is around 60%. So you gotta grow about 10. I had 12 - 5 turned out to be the true 'Lisa' variant.

I took that photo at the Deerfield Beach Arboretum, in D. F. Bch, Florida. It planted right alongside a canal & sucks up water all day. The leaves are extremely stiff & feel like plastic. Here's a few more photos of it. If you can't find one locally PM me, I may know of one.

Up close shot of Sabal 'Lisa' showing leaf character, distinct from that of wild-type Sabal palmetto

Recently, a new mutant form of Sabal palmetto has been discovered in South West Florida, and named as a cultivarSabal palmetto 'Lisa'. The difference between the 'Lisa' and the wild-type Sabal palmetto is in the form of the leaf. The 'Lisa' has leaves that are costapalmate, acute, not pendulous, not filamentose, rigid, not strongly divided, cupped, and slightly undulating. This mutation of Sabal palmetto is beginning to be seen in the nursery trade, as it is just as hardy to cold, salt, drought, fire and wind as the wild type of the species, but looks different. Two specimens can be seen in Fort Myers, Florida at the intersection of Luckett Road and I-75, and many seed is collected and distributed from these specimens. Seeds fromSabal palmetto 'Lisa' have a 68% chance of becoming true to type, the other 32% develop as the wild type.[9]

I believe the few off Luckett Rd & I-75 in Fort Myers were moved to a safe location due to development
