all types of Serenoa repens along the St. Francis trail; tall, short, silver, green

Here are some photos of all different forms of Saw Palmetto, Serenoa repens, along the St. Francis ghost town trail (see my Sabal palmetto post). At the start, it is higher, drier ground but shady. The Saw Palmetto here had a silver coloring to it. As you hiked in further, it turned to the green form and lots of taller trunked specimen. Further along out in the sunnier locations in bayhead forest, with Loblolly Pine (Pinus taeda) and Loblolly Bay (Gordonia lasianthus), the palms were shorter and more yellow-green.

Here is probably my favorite specimen, it is trunking and single stemmed. It was about 7ft tall.
