Wow, this is new. A $5 admission to get in now? Never a good thing IMO in today's times.

I hope Andrew just made a mistake and meant to say the $5 were for the tour. Because an entry fee would not be good.

Jerry is right that the $5 were for the tour in previous years.

FREE admission for all SFPS members and MBC members

FREE admission for accompanied kids 16 and younger

FREE tours given of the Garden all day long

com'on guys! MBC makes NO money on concession and they have no gift shop. $5 is an incredibly reasonable amount to host an event like this.

I'm going!

I was thinking more about people that are just getting into palms and don't even know about MBC.

They might be less likely to "Come On In". For anybody that knows of MBC it obviously is a great deal to get to see such a great garden with all the knowledgeable staff members and volunteers sharing their expertise and also get to buy great palms.

Happy growing,

George Sparkman

No mistakes, guys. But hey--if you are a SFPS member, it IS free. The palm sale palm list should be out very soon. Thanks Tim and George for helping out with the info. Jeff, your a member so it would be free for you as well. Just another reason/incentive why palm folks should join their local palm society chapter. :)

In addition to some really rare palms, the list includes some very hard to find cycads such as Zamia pseudoparasitica and Z. nesophila. Many varieties of Ceratozamia, Encephalartos and a number of Dioon species are for sale.

The sale is open from 9:30 to 4:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday, but if your passion is for the really rare ones, I would come early on Saturday.
