About 3 months back i purschased few palms,

in it one fan palm was sold to me as Med Fan palm

Variation(Blue Form).

But in one of the threads Dave from SoCal corrected me

that it must be a Breha, since it has no spines as the Med

fan palm must have.

Now iam enclosing few stills for your observation_

Kris,

It looks like Brahea armata to me.  I think a picture of the base of the palm would confirm this ID...

Brahea armata?

Hmm.

I thought this was a B. armata.  Look at the thorns on the petioles.

Dear Guys thanks for your swift response &

expertise.since breha Sp is very new to our region_

South Asia.

I personally thank Jack,Phil,Zac_my friend,Dave_my dear

Buddy.its very surprising that Dave mentioned this a Breha

Sp even without seeing my pictures ? i think i should learn

telepathy & cooking from him Just to impress my would be

wife ! and the art of forgiving..

I hope that what Maximus has said comes true_the suggestion

of Breha_Super Silver Sp.if this plant grows up into that.i will

love it.simce i have got seeds of breha armeda which has

germinated into saplings, here is a still for all of you to see

wheather both the palms are the same.i hate doubles or

identicals in my garden.but even if it is so no problem

they will be given away free to govt instutions.certainly they

would not have heard what breha palm is..

And Dear Howeadypis_ the avatar is a still taken from a reputed palm & cycas nursery logo.the still is of a cycas

Revoulta.it impressed me much so i used it a my Avatar.

and its my first choice & will keep this avatar permenently

as my I.D for this forum.

Here is the still of Breha Armeta from seed, its 8 months old

and it came out of our rainy season in flying colours.since

most of our members suggested it hates wet humid climate

of the tropics.so i have even dug huge pits just to help

these babies to overcome root rot during our mansoon rains.

A chelian wine palm has sprouted in just 18 days from the seeds and i have began to toucher him to aclamitise our

growing conditions.so it took this palm to the terrace had

placed in a plastic barrel & covered with mesh to protect it

from wreched squriels from eating it up.but no special

breaking or warming up session.direct sunlight & warmth.

because from next month end.its going to be 96 to 106F

and aprail to june god its_98 to 109F may even go up.it

depends on the heat wave.

Here is the Breha Armeda Sapling from seed_

Kris and M@x-I am doubtful that it could be the Brahea sp Super Silver. It was just released and Brahea nitida, which is closely allied to this one is super slow so far for me.  I germinated a seedling of it back in June and its still a single strap leaf.

And Dave- Botanically, as it stands now, armata includes several other species, like Brahea elegans(lumped into armata), which IMHO, is completely different. B elegans is much more elegant with droopy tips to the frond segments. I should probably see other localities of both elegans and armata to know for sure on this, as I have only seen the Nacapule Canyon elegans population.

Love,

Thanks Kris!  You have a nice palm, and after seeing the trunk base, it's definitely a Brahea, and almost certainly armata.  As Zac mentioned, B. armata contains a wide variety of "looks", and many formerly recognized species have been lumped into armata.  So, the seedlings you've germinated may end up looking quite a bit different from your larger Brahea.
