Boy, when that sets seed you'll have enough to last a lifetime. When are you were going to put 'flame' decals on that mower?

Very nice palm. This is one of those palms in which photos I've seen never seemed to convey its form very well. It surprised me when seeing it the first time in person at Fairchild Gardens as I never imagined it was so huge. Too many images I saw were zoomed in, with no background reference to frame it's monstrousness. Your panned out shot with the dwarfed lawn tractor captures it well. Plus those fearsome long spines project out and the trunk is very dark/black. Incidentally, another one was Livistona decipiens (decora), which always appeared scrawny in photos, but was beautiful in person. The camera just can't capture the 3D effect of the cascading ribbon leaves. Ever thought of tapping your Arenga for sugar or building a Balinese temple with a sweet roof?

Thanks Aleksander, Tim re Flames :) I will ask my son if he wants flames painted on since he does the mowing..Will John Deere mind :)

Rafael, I hope it seeds , will let you know :)

Monkeyranch thanks for comments, I would "Love" to tap the Sugar, the timing has to be right to "tap in', Palm Sugar is "Glorious stuff" and "healthy too". This is our 1st Sugar palm to flower so with the remaining few of the same age we hope to tap the Palm Sugar, 2 that where planted in filtered sun are larger in "every way' to the full sun specimen. Pete :)

Mine's been flowering for years, but never set a seed. It's in full sun, poor gravelly soil, and gets very little water. So I've never been surprised at no seed set. Now the reverse would be surprising.

Zig, surprised it hasn't seeded for you, I hope my bigger 2 don't start to flower soon, hoping the forest situation they are in with plenty of shade " holds em back" :)

Troy its a little beast for a Sugar Palm, seen em twice this size and Jim its a Pinnata, will happily send you seed "when it happens". Pete :)
